Intelligence might be defined as learning and performing suitable techniques to solve problems and achieve goals appropriate to the context in an uncertain, ever-varying world. A fully pre-programmed factory robot is flexible, accurate, and consistent but not intelligent. Artificial Intelligence (AI), a term coined by emeritus Stanford Professor John McCarthy in 1955, defined him as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines." Much research has humans program machines to behave cleverly, like playing chess, but, today, we emphasize machines that can learn somewhat as human beings do. Autonomous systems can independently plan and decide sequences of steps to achieve a specified goal without micro-management.

Since these two terms are so interconnected, let's look deeper into what makes them unique. In order to settle the Artificial Intelligence vs Business Intelligence debate once and for all, we'll start with their definitions and proceed to describe points that make them distinct. Artificial intelligence (AI) is a computer system designed to perform tasks like learning, reasoning and generalizing, which are generally accomplished by conscious beings, and aimed to replicate human intelligence completely. Business Intelligence (BI) is a computer system designed to collect all data within one enterprise into a single Data Warehouse, analyze tracked data and offer insights into improving that enterprise's performance. Chances are, you may be interested in artificial intelligence. You probably won't know where to start. Want to learn about, say Machine Learning and Neural Networks? I've done some research and put together a glossary of artificial intelligence terms. What I've discovered is that regardless of how much I try to learn, there's still more to uncover.

Big data means people are spending more time managing information, rather than taking actions based on the insights it creates. In most industries, it isn't a question of if artificial intelligence should be implemented, but when. Competition in the information age is fast and fierce. If you're able to harness the potential of AI, you're going to grab that much needed edge. First, you need to know what artificial intelligence is. The term artificial intelligence was first used in 1956, as part of the Dartmouth Workshop. On a simple level, it describes a computer that reproduces human functions.

All-natural and organic are familiar terms to consumers, and anything artificial has become anathema to many. Unless we're talking artificial intelligence – or AI – then investors should be hungry to learn as much as possible about a technology that is becoming as ubiquitous as organic tofu. The vast majority of nearly 2,000 experts polled by the Pew Research Center in 2014 said they anticipate robotics and artificial intelligence will permeate wide segments of daily life by 2025. A 2015 study covering 17 countries found that artificial intelligence and related technologies added an estimated 0.4 percentage point on average to those countries' annual GDP growth between 1993 and 2007, accounting for just over one-tenth of those countries' overall GDP growth during that time. Interesting numbers – but just what is artificial intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI), the ability of a digital computer or computer-controlled robot to perform tasks commonly associated with intelligent beings. The term is frequently applied to the project of developing systems endowed with the intellectual processes characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience. Since the development of the digital computer in the 1940s, it has been demonstrated that computers can be programmed to carry out very complex tasks--as, for example, discovering proofs for mathematical theorems or playing chess--with great proficiency.
